Embroidered Jeans, Fit by Fit: Which Pair Is Yours

Model wearing Sleepy Apparel embroidered baggy wide-leg Y2K jeans in a light wash

Five pairs of denim in the lineup tonight. Three of them are embroidered jeans, and they are not interchangeable — different washes, different legs, different size ranges, one that stops at L. Choosing between them is less about which motif you like and more about which leg you will keep reaching for.

So here is the whole denim rotation, fit by fit, read off the live listings.

What you are actually choosing between

The Unisex Denim rotation runs five pairs. Three carry thread, two do not, and the difference shows up in more than the graphic.

The embroidery on our denim is stitched, not printed — raised thread, visible stitch, something you can find with a thumb without looking. Our denim is hand-embroidered, and that is the part worth paying attention to when two pairs of jeans look the same in a photograph. We went into that difference at length in embroidered vs printed.

What follows is the practical version. Which pair, which leg, which size range.

The four-story pair — widest leg, widest choice

The Embroidered Baggy Jeans — Wide-Leg Y2K Denim is one cut with four different embroideries, and the four are genuinely different pieces rather than colorways of the same idea.

  • Kimono Indigo — a kimono figure trailing lilies and cherry blossom down the back of the leg, on a faded indigo wash. The only blue pair in the run.
  • Twin Dragon Black — two red dragons coiled across the back in scaled thread, silver at the claws, blossom scattered between them.
  • Tiger Black — a tiger down one leg, a dragon down the other, stitched a shade off the black so it only reads when someone is close.
  • Koi Blossom Black — koi swimming up a blossom branch on washed black. The only one with a little pink in it.

The cut underneath all four is a relaxed wide leg that stacks over a sneaker or a boot, in heavyweight denim, unisex S–XXL. The listing is specific about sizing: true to size for full baggy, size down for a cleaner cut.

This is the pair to take if you want the embroidery to be the whole fit — the thread runs big across the seat and down the leg, so everything above it should stay quiet.

The angel pair — light wash, straighter leg

The Angel Embroidered Baggy Jeans are the softer read. Light-wash heavyweight denim, a cupid's-arrow angel embroidery, and a relaxed high-street silhouette with a straight, stackable leg. Available in blue or black, unisex S–XXL.

The leg is the real difference. Where the four-story pair opens out wide, this one runs straighter down from the knee, which means it stacks on the shoe instead of pooling around it. If wide-leg denim has ever felt like too much fabric on you, this is the version of baggy that stays in proportion.

Sizing reads the same as the wide-leg pair — baggy and true to size, size down for a cleaner cut.

The dollar pair — the shortest size run

The Light-Wash Dollar Embroidered Baggy Jeans put a dollar-pattern embroidery splice on light-wash heavyweight denim, cut relaxed and wide, made to stack over sneakers or boots. Baggy, true to size, size down for a cleaner cut.

One thing to know before you get attached. This pair runs S–L. No XL, no XXL. It is the shortest size run in the denim lineup, so if you normally sit at the top of a size chart, the wide-leg or the angel pair is the one to look at instead.

When the plain pairs are the better buy

Embroidery is not always the right call, and two pairs in the rotation are built for the nights it is not.

The Washed Straight-Leg Jeans are the everyday pair — slim-straight leg, vintage stone-washed finish, in blue, black, or grey, unisex S–XL. True to size, size up for a relaxed leg. This is the denim that goes under a loud top without arguing with it.

The High-Waist Washed Baggy Jeans — Flag Detail take the other route: high-waisted wide straight leg, washed classic-blue finish, subtle flag detailing, unisex M–XXL. Size up for a baggier leg.

That pair is also the only one in the lineup that publishes a full measurement table, which makes it useful as a reference point. At M the waist measures 29.5 inches and the hem 18.5 inches; at XL that becomes 32.7 inches at the waist and 20.1 inches at the hem, with lengths running 40.2 to 41.7 inches across M to XL. XXL measurements are available on request. Numbers like those tell you more about how a wide straight leg will actually sit than any adjective can.

How to size embroidered jeans

Three things decide it, in this order.

  1. Start with the size run, not the size. The dollar pair stops at L, the straight-leg pair at XL, and the two other embroidered pairs go to XXL. Half the decision gets made here before you have picked anything.
  2. Then read the sizing line on the pair itself. All three embroidered pairs say the same thing — true to size for baggy, size down for a cleaner cut. That is a styling instruction as much as a fit one, and it is the fastest way to get the leg you actually pictured.
  3. Use the numbers where numbers exist. Only the flag pair publishes measurements. Treat them as a rough guide to how a wide straight leg falls, not as a spec sheet for the embroidered pairs.

One more, less obvious. Embroidered denim rewards being looked after — the thread is the part that shows wear first, and washing it the way you would wash anything else is how a good pair goes dull early. The care routine is four steps long and takes about a minute to learn.

Common questions

Are Sleepy Apparel's embroidered jeans really embroidered, or printed?

Embroidered. Our denim is hand-embroidered — real thread, real hands. You can feel the stitch raised off the surface and see it on the reverse, which is the test that separates thread from ink on any garment, ours or anyone else's.

Which pair runs the baggiest?

The wide-leg pair. It is cut relaxed and wide through the leg and worn true to size for full volume, where the angel pair runs straighter from the knee down. If you want the biggest leg in the lineup, that is where it is.

What if I am between sizes?

Every embroidered pair says the same thing — true to size gives you baggy, sizing down gives you a cleaner cut. So the question is not really which size fits, it is which silhouette you are after. Decide that first and the size answers itself.

Do embroidered jeans need special washing?

Not special, just gentler. Inside out, cold water, no dryer, and less often than you think. That is most of it, and the full routine is in the care guide.

Where to start

If you are picking one pair to live in, take the leg first and the thread second — the cut is what you will notice every time you put them on. The whole lineup sits in Unisex Denim, five pairs deep, and three of them have someone's handiwork on the back.
